Green thumb....I'm glad Justin has one

So for those people that know me...I DO NOT have a green thumb. I can even kill cacti. So Justin is the plant grower out of the two of us. This year we wanted to try growing plants in a hay bale. It was something Dad saw in a magazine. You wet down the bales for 2 weeks then plant your plants in a hole with a little potting soil.
Here are the plants the day after we put them in.
Here are the plants 3 weeks later....we already have our first tomato!

Here is the front if the house 3 weeks ago
Here are the same plants today...

Crazy isn't it?

Shhhhh be very very quiet.....

This past weekend Justin and I were able to test our skills at turkey hunting. After rushing up to the mountains and getting behind EVERY slow car in Ashe county we finally made it up with some daylihgt. dad gave js two practice shots each since ammo is so expensive. both Justin and i's practice shot was right on and we both had dead target turkeys!! We got all geared up and bought camo to be perfectly outfitted. Well we got up a 5am.....to fiercely blowing winds and very cold temperatures. That is a huge shock when the past week has been mid 80's. so needless to say I froze my butt off!! It was very exciting to hear dad call for the turkeys and get to experience his hobby. Unfortunately we didn't see or hear any turkeys. We gave up after we were all frozen and said we would try again in the afternoon. By the time we got down mom had a fresh pot of coffee and breakfast started :) she's the best! After going into town to check out the shops with mom we tried again and even this time we heard no turkeys and saw nothing. Oh we'll we have another weekend to try!

Update on the second weekend...the weather was perfect it was supposed to rain ans it held off till Sunday...but all Ed did w hear some gobbles saw no turkeys :( I guess I'll have to try again next year! I'm just grateful for the chance to have my dad teach me his hobby, I can't believe it has taken me this long to go the first timer I with him.

Wedding time!

So this post is also late but better late than never. Britt got married April 6th and I was one of her maids of honor. It was a crazy couple days leading up to the wedding. I was on radiology which is one of the most busy work intensive blocks we have fourth year. So I spent a good deal of time trying to get ready for rounds and do my cases while still doing my best to be a good maid of honor. I hope I succeeded....the wedding was a ton of fun. I was able to get off early Friday and was able to hang out with Britt before her rehearsal which was some needed time together. The rehearsal was bumpy but went well overall. The rehearsal dinner was amazing and delicious. After the dinner we headed back to Britt's house for a sleepover :). After the slight problem of not having a key got sorted out we got into the house...and Britt now knows how to break into her own home. We watched Princess and the Frog and had a few glasses of wine which was perfect. It was a fun night and the next morning it was Britt's wedding day!! After a beautiful brunch Alex and I headed off to get out hair done. It turned out amazing and I loved it! Then off to get our makeup done which was a treat for me, I had never had my makeup done. Thanks Britt!! The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was breathtaking. While on the the way to the buffet I saw all of our college friends and got sufficiently distracted for a long time. Justin was very ready for food by the time I was finally done catching up. I have a very patient boyfriend. The evening was amazing and the bride looked breathtaking just like every good wedding should be. Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Gillis!!

Free cone day

This past week I've been on rotation with Amanda and Christina, they are two of my classmates who also have a strong bovine interest. It's been a great time to hang out with them this past week. Fourth year is a very interesting year. Since the rotations are only 2 weeks long you have two weeks of intense learning and hard work with these people and then you move on. The rotations are almost always with other groups of people so the friends you have made during vet school you don't often see. That is why I've been so excited to catch up with Christina and Amanda they are really great friends through school and is it sad to think we are going to split up right after graduation. So last Tuesday we went to free cone day and took the puppies on a walk. Amanda went to school in Vermont so she is very familiar with ben and jerry's and s really stoked to find out there was one when she moved here-she is always the best at remembering free cone day :) Here are some pictures!

Heading to the west.....LA

So this is a very late blog post but better late than never. On my vacation block Justin and I took a long weekend and visited Jess and Dawson in LA. I had never seen LA and we miss seeing Jess and Dawson so we had a win win situation. W left late on Thursday and landed at night. That night we caught up and relaxed. We had to rest up because the next day we eerie headed to Disneyland bright end early. And if anyone knows me I was like....eeeeekkkkkk yayayayayayyayayayayayaayay!!!!! So we had a great time after getting to Disney at 9am and staying till 10pm. We went to Disneys California adventure first and rode al the big rides. First up was Hollywood tower of terror which. Only had a 7 min wait!! That was of course after we got fast passes for the new cars ride. We had a blast running around like little kids. This is my favorite picture from the trip.....it was after Jess Dawson and Justin split two bottles of wine and I was sober.....I think the picture from the space mountain ride reflects this perfectly.

The next day we went around LA for some sightseeing. The only thing in LA that I knew I wanted to see for sure to see was the hand prints!!! So Jess informed me that those were in front of the Chinese theater and that she would for sure take us there. W had a blast. A couple other things we did was eat at Randy's doughnuts and eat at In and out burger. Randy's were the best doughnuts i have ever had in my life!!! i was very impressed. We just had a blast! The last day was a beach day. It was so good to hang out with Jess and Dawson, we miss the. So much and cherish any time we have with them. Miss you both cant wait to see you again!!
